Lavandin essential oil is obtained by distilling the flowering tops of the Lavandula hybrida plant. Its action and use are identical to those of lavender oil.
Lavender oil is the most commonly used essential oil in the world. You should have it at home at all times for its relaxing properties, which relieve tension and ensure sound sleep, for the quick healing of burns, cuts, grazes and insect bites, and for its antioxidant power. Antioxidants are the super-healers we need. Free radicals from chemicals, pollutants, stress and environmental toxins cause a range of cell damage, immune deficiency and countless other health risks, including cancer and chronic disease. The body produces antioxidants in the form of enzymes such as catalase, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase. Unfortunately, our bodies are under constant attack from free radicals, which deplete our reserves. Lavender oil is an effective antioxidant supplier. Chinese scientists observed that lavender oil regulates the levels of these 3 antioxidants and protects brain cells from damage. Antioxidant activity and apoptosis are the main mechanisms behind its powerful effect against oxidative stress.
The French chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé was the first to discover the beneficial properties of lavender oil when he badly burned his hand in an accident. He used pure, undiluted lavender oil, and it healed his hand completely without infection or scarring. Scientific research shows that the oil taken internally relieves insomnia, depression and Alzheimer's. Other research shows that lavender oil not only reduces the severity of diabetes but also improves body weight and preserves the liver and kidneys in laboratory mice.
Lavender oil has antiseptic, pain-relieving, antispasmodic, bactericidal and sedative properties.
The therapeutic compounds in lavender oil are linalool, linalyl acetate, beta-ocimene and alpha-terpineol. The oil is well tolerated by most people.
