2. Fights bacteria and parasites: Thyme oil helps treat bacterial intestinal, vaginal and urinary infections. For bacteria in the respiratory system: rub 2–4 drops mixed with a carrier oil into the affected area and take 2–3 drops internally.

3. Refreshes the skin: Thyme oil protects the skin from harmful bacteria and fungal infections – for acne, wounds, cuts, rashes and scars. Thyme oil is a powerful antioxidant and slows down the ageing process (2–4 drops externally, mixed with a carrier oil).

4. Soothes inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease and colitis: Mix 1 drop each of thyme oil, frankincense oil, chamomile oil, peppermint oil and ginger oil in 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and take internally morning and evening until the symptoms subside.

5. Serves as an insect repellent: Thyme oil successfully repels mosquitoes, fleas, lice and bedbugs. It is also suitable against moths. Apply externally or via aromatherapy.

6. Supports a healthy hormonal balance: Thyme oil has a progesterone-balancing effect and can relieve menopausal symptoms, mood swings, hot flushes and insomnia. Rub onto the neck, wrists and feet, and also use in an aroma lamp.

Description

Thyme is a herbal superhero – a symbol of courage. In the past it was added to soldiers' bathwater to give them courage in battle. The Romans believed that thyme oil taken before or during a meal protected against poisons, which made the oil a favourite of emperors. The Greeks and Romans burned bundles of thyme to purify their temples and homes. The widespread use of thyme oil continued for centuries. When the plague struck Europe in 1340, millions of people turned to thyme for relief and protection. Adding thyme oil to meat products also stopped the meat from spoiling.

Thyme oil is obtained from the tips and leaves by steam distillation.

Thyme oil has antiseptic, antibacterial, antispasmodic and soothing properties.

Thyme oil has strong activity against all types of bacteria, including antibiotic-resistant ones, reduces inflammation and helps with colitis. It has an expectorant, diuretic, anti-inflammatory and sudorific effect. It stimulates capillary circulation, tones the nervous system and stimulates physical and mental activity.
