1. Maintains a healthy immune system: Orange oil can fight viruses and bacteria. To support the immune system and reduce the effect of free radicals, take 1–2 drops internally a day. Place under the tongue or drip into a glass of water.
2. Shows strong anti-cancer properties: This anti-cancer activity is due to the limonene content of the oil. There are over 200 scientific papers on limonene describing its effectiveness against cancer cells. Put 1–2 drops of the oil in tea, juice or water.
A 2010 study found that orange oil can effectively help stop the growth of cancer cells in the human lung and colon. This is due to the PMFs in the oil – flavonoid antioxidants that have been shown to halt the spread of cancer cells and induce apoptosis.
Limonene, a component of orange essential oil, has been studied as a potential cancer treatment. A 2012 study found that limonene-rich orange oil both inhibited the growth and promoted the death of colon cancer cells in culture.
A 2017 study found that orange essential oil inhibited the growth of lung and prostate cancer cell lines in culture. Increased cell death was also observed in the lung cancer cell line. Orange essential oil was also observed to have antioxidant activity.

4. Strong antimicrobial activity: A 2012 study examined the effect of orange essential oil on E. coli isolates obtained from beef. These isolates can potentially cause food poisoning. The results showed that after 24 hours, a concentration of 1% or lower of orange essential oil inhibited the bacteria at refrigeration temperatures.
Another study examined the effect of orange essential oil on antibiotic-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus (staph bacteria). The researchers found that when added to infected human cells in culture, low concentrations of orange essential oil killed the bacteria without damaging the cultured cells.
Orange essential oil can also prevent the growth of fungi that can cause food spoilage. One study found that orange oil provides some protection against four types of fungi.
5. Fights anxiety and depression:Orange oil has calming properties. By diffusing the oil, adding it to a bath or inhaling it directly, you can eliminate anxiety and reduce stress.
A 2013 study found that aromatherapy with orange essential oil reduced the pulse rate and stress hormone levels in children undergoing dental procedures.

The orange has fantastic historical and even mythical roots. The Japanese believe its blossoms are a symbol of purity. Arab women used it in ancient times to colour grey hair. Nostradamus wrote about how its blossoms and fruit were used in cosmetics. Hercules valued it so much that he stole the golden fruit from the Hesperides, who guarded it as the staple food of the Roman and Greek gods. Interestingly, the sweet fruit does not grow wild anywhere in the world and is thought to be a natural hybrid of pomelo and mandarin.
Orange essential oil is obtained by cold pressing the outer peel of the orange fruit. It is used for its anti-cancer, antidepressant, digestive and antioxidant properties. Its citrus aroma lifts the emotions and relieves stress. It can also work as a secret weapon in the kitchen against stubborn, greasy stains.
Orange oil relieves the symptoms of colds and flu, shows anti-tumour activity, helps reduce wrinkles, serves as a natural antibacterial agent, eliminates anxiety, boosts circulation, improves blood pressure and supports the lymphatic system.
