Key benefits

1. Care for the teeth and mouth: In 2012, researchers studied the effect of clove oil on dental erosion, which can lead to tooth decay. According to the study, clove oil and its molecules are effective in preventing tooth erosion, which led the authors to believe that clove oil may act similarly to fluoride in preventing cavities.

A 2016 study tested 10 natural plant products to see how effective they were against bacteria and microorganisms in the mouth. Clove oil was found to be the most effective.

Another study from 2006 compared the pain-relieving ability of clove oil and benzocaine. The researchers found that participants tested with clove oil or benzocaine had significantly less pain than the placebo group. This led the study authors to believe that clove oil may be effective as a local anaesthetic.

2. For ear infections: a swab with equal amounts of clove and black seed oils is placed in the ear canal and the pain subsides.

3. Strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Even unbearable joint pain and arthritis are relieved by the oil's powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Muscle pain will also disappear when the sore area is massaged with a few drops of clove oil dissolved in a carrier oil.

4. Improves impaired digestion by destroying harmful bacteria in the digestive tract, and protects against stomach infections, stomach pain, flatulence (gas) and hiccups.

5. For respiratory illnesses – colds, coughs, a blocked nose, a sore throat and sinuses.

6. Has strong antifungal properties and prevents fungal infections. The eugenol in clove oil inhibits the growth of Candida albicans, a pathogen that causes candidiasis in the human body. It also destroys various types of intestinal parasites and their eggs. It repels and kills ticks, mosquitoes, flies, ants and more.

7. Lowers glucose levels in diabetes. Clove oil has incredible potential to reduce average serum glucose levels.

8. Benefits for the skin: With its strong antiseptic properties, clove oil prevents infection in cuts, burns, wounds and bruises while improving the regeneration of the skin's epithelial cells.

Clove oil destroys over 60 types of bacteria, including Propionibacterium acnes, which causes acne. Apply a mixture of clove oil and coconut oil at a ratio of 1:10 to the affected areas.

9. Works well for headaches and migraine attacks: a drop of the oil on the palate, or a few drops on a piece of cloth (as a cold compress) on the forehead for 15 minutes, will certainly relieve a headache.

10. Stops nausea and vomiting from seasickness: 1 drop of clove oil in a glass of water.

11. The oil has aphrodisiac properties. In minimal amounts it raises testosterone in men, but in large amounts it lowers it.

12. It is also used for obesity: it helps burn fat. Its anti-lipid properties are enhanced if cinnamon oil is added, so it is a good idea to add it to dishes.

13. Clove oil improves breathing in asthma and bronchitis. This effect is due to its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and expectorant properties. It can also be used successfully for respiratory illnesses – colds, coughs, a blocked nose, a sore throat and sinuses.

Description

Clove is an aromatic spice with great healing power and numerous benefits. This is due to the plant's antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial and analgesic properties. Clove oil is considered the most powerful natural antioxidant, protecting cells from the aggressive action of free radicals and preventing a number of diseases. In oil form it shows the highest antioxidant protection value on the ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) scale.

Five drops of this oil are equal in strength to 45 kilograms of blueberries (also a strong antioxidant). In powder form, clove quickly loses its properties. Asian medicine has used it since time immemorial, not only in culinary recipes but also to protect the body from disease.

The main active component of clove essential oil is eugenol. It is known for its strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and is used to good effect for toothache, reducing inflammation and relieving pain (simply rub the gum around the painful tooth). Clove oil also has a strong antibacterial and antifungal action, which makes it one of the best remedies for halitosis (bad breath), as it neutralises decaying food remains in the mouth.
