Key benefits

The uses of rosehip oil range from cosmetic to therapeutic. Because of its many benefits, the oil is often included in various oil blends, gels, lotions, creams, soaps, serums and shampoos.

1. Has strong antioxidant properties:Rosehip oil helps reduce skin damage from UV rays and free radicals, prevents wrinkles and stimulates collagen formation, helps wounds heal faster and nourishes dry, tired skin. Rosehip oil reduces skin pigmentation and is very suitable for skin eczema and acne.

Used topically, rosehip oil can be applied directly to the skin to make it healthy, radiant and firm.

To make a natural exfoliant for the face and body, mix rosehip oil with a few drops of your favourite essential oil and a little sugar. Apply this mixture to the skin with your fingertips, rubbing in gentle circular motions, then rinse with warm water.

For a gentle facial moisturiser, massage a few drops of rosehip oil into a well-cleansed face. You can apply it morning and evening to keep the skin hydrated and elastic. Alternatively, up to 2 drops of rosehip oil can be added to a regular moisturiser. In hot weather, rosehip oil can be diluted with water in a spray bottle and sprayed onto the skin for a refreshing feeling of hydration and to keep the skin moist.

For people with sensitive and acne-prone skin, rosehip oil should be used sparingly in small amounts and diluted with other plant and essential oils considered beneficial for this skin type. It combines well with tea tree, lavender, lemon, geranium, patchouli and rosemary oils.

To soothe and reduce acne, mix rosehip oil with 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil, 3 drops of frankincense essential oil, 3 drops of lavender essential oil and 3 drops of tea tree essential oil. Mix all the oils together in a small dark glass bottle and shake gently to blend well. No more than 3 drops of this mixture are massaged into the skin to treat acne, scars or stretch marks.

Rosehip oil is also an effective make-up remover, especially for eye make-up. To remove eye make-up, pour a few drops of oil onto a cotton pad and gently wipe your eyelids and lashes. The oil is also very effective at reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Used on the hair, rosehip oil can be applied directly to the scalp and left for an hour before washing. This will hydrate dry hair while soothing, removing and preventing dandruff.

For a conditioning effect, rosehip oil can be added to your favourite natural shampoo, rubbed into the scalp before showering, or applied to the hair and left overnight.

To restore shine and smooth split ends, rosehip oil can be combined with coconut oil before applying to the hair and scalp.

Used on the nails, rosehip oil hydrates, strengthens and prevents dryness and brittleness. It can be massaged directly into the nails. This treatment is ideal just before bed and will restore the health of your nails, especially if applied every evening for at least a week.

Used in massage, the thin consistency of rosehip oil allows it to absorb into the skin faster than many other oils, without clogging the pores.

To prevent and fade spots, minimise the appearance of stretch marks, soothe sunburn and inflammation and balance collagen production, 2–3 drops of rosehip oil can be massaged into the affected area every day for 2–3 months or until visible results appear. Alternatively, rosehip oil can be mixed with essential oils known to reduce the appearance of unwanted dark spots, such as tea tree or lemon essential oil.

For an aromatherapy massage, rosehip oil can be mixed with various essential oils, according to your preferences and needs.
