Key benefits

Pomegranate seed oil is popular among people suffering from premature ageing, wrinkles, skin inflammation, acne, psoriasis, dandruff, hair loss, high cholesterol, a weak immune system, high blood pressure, chronic inflammation, poor circulation and arthritis.

1. Clears acne: Several studies conclude that using pomegranate seed oil topically on the face can help clear pimples and acne. The antibacterial and antioxidant effects of pomegranate seed oil can help eliminate acne-causing bacteria and also restore the balance of oil levels in the skin.

2. Strengthens the immune system: Pomegranate seed oil contains a significant level of vitamin C, so if you take it internally it can give your body's defences the boost they need. It is also effective for protecting the skin's immune activity, preventing many airborne pathogens from lingering on the skin.

3. Improves heart health: The combination of phytochemicals, monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids found in pomegranate seed oil has a major impact on overall heart health. It can help lower levels of “bad” cholesterol in the body and raise HDL cholesterol, while boosting circulation and lowering blood pressure. All this helps reduce your chances of atherosclerosis, heart attacks, strokes and other heart diseases.

4. Reduces inflammation: One of the most common conditions affecting the body is inflammation, whether in the tissues, blood vessels, organs or joints. Fortunately, pomegranate seed oil has quite a few anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce swelling and relieve the pain associated with conditions such as arthritis, joint disease, headaches, haemorrhoids and oedema.

5. Diabetes: Research shows that pomegranate seed oil may have a noticeable effect on insulin resistance, which is very good news for people living with diabetes or at high risk of developing the condition. This research is at an early stage, but the results so far are very encouraging.

6. Skin care: One of the most popular uses of pomegranate seed oil is for the skin, as it can improve its appearance and health. The antioxidant phytochemicals and vitamins found in pomegranate seed oil can help reduce the signs of premature ageing, improve collagen formation and neutralise the free radicals that cause oxidative stress in the skin.

7. Hair care: Massaging small amounts of pomegranate seed oil into the scalp is an excellent way to moisturise it and stimulate blood flow. This can effectively improve the health of your hair, counter premature hair loss, remove dandruff and even stimulate hair growth from healthy follicles.

8. Increases circulation: Increasing blood circulation in the body is an excellent way to prevent chronic disease, improve the efficiency of the immune system and speed up healing. Pomegranate seed oil has stimulating properties that can also help with weight-loss efforts by optimising your metabolism, lowering fat deposition and generally increasing energy, making people more active and fit!

9. Anti-cancer potential: According to a 2017 study published in the journal Molecules, punicic acid, the main active ingredient in pomegranate seed oil, as well as conjugated linoleic acid, have antiproliferative effects on breast cancer.

A 2004 study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food showed that pomegranate-derived products, including the oil, have anti-tumour potential against prostate cancer.

Description

Pomegranate seed oil is obtained by cold pressing and is a rich source of vitamins C and B5, polyphenols, phytoestrogens, iron, potassium and fatty acids, and contains 3 times more antioxidants than red wine and green tea. It is used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes.

Pomegranate seed oil has quite a few important benefits, such as its ability to prevent premature ageing, soothe skin inflammation, protect the heart, stimulate the immune system, lower blood pressure, eliminate inflammation, strengthen the hair, stop dandruff and stimulate circulation.

Pomegranate seed oil contains punicic acid (an omega-5 fatty acid), which has strong anti-inflammatory properties and destroys the free radicals that cause ageing. Its anti-inflammatory action is beneficial for people with psoriasis, eczema and sunburn, and it heals wounds. It stimulates the main cells in the outer layer of the skin by delivering nutrients directly into the cells, thus speeding up cell regeneration and not only repairing damaged skin but also rejuvenating it.

Pomegranate seed oil penetrates deep into the skin, providing lasting moisture without leaving a greasy residue. It is perfect for all skin types, especially acne-prone skin. It fights free radicals effectively and protects against strong sun (experiments show that it protects against skin cancer resulting from sunburn). Its antioxidant properties help collagen production and improve skin texture. It stimulates the production of collagen and elastin and also acts as a sunscreen.

Pomegranate seed oil also contains pro-oestrogen, which supports hormonal balance in men and women.
It stimulates blood circulation in the scalp, cleans it of impurities – follicles clogged with dandruff, bacteria – balances its pH, nourishes and soothes it, and has a good effect in treating psoriasis and eczema of the scalp. In this way pomegranate seed oil acts as a natural hair tonic, boosting growth and revitalising the hair.

Pomegranate seed oil is also used as a massage oil and as an ingredient in anti-ageing creams and soaps.
