Key benefits

1. Reduces inflammation and insulin resistance: A study of overweight or obese women shows that consuming grape seed oil reduces inflammatory conditions as well as insulin resistance.

2. Reduces the risk of heart disease:Grape seed oil contains high levels of vitamin E, which has strong antioxidant properties and has been shown to help reduce cell damage from free radicals in the body. This protection helps prevent heart disease and some types of cancer.

3. Reducing blood clots: Another study shows that grape seed oil helps reduce platelet aggregation, which reduces blood clotting.

4. Improves the work of the immune and nervous systems.

5. Lowers the level of bad cholesterol in the blood.

6. Moisturises the skin, stimulates collagen production, reduces dark circles under the eyes and prevents skin damage from ultraviolet rays.

7. Speeds up wound healing.

8. Strengthens the hair and protects it from breakage.

9. A high smoke point compared with other plant oils: Polyunsaturated fatty acids are usually not the best choice for cooking because they oxidise easily and so become “toxic”. Grape seed oil, however, has a higher smoke point than olive oil or some other plant oils rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, which makes it very suitable for cooking at temperatures up to 200° C.

Description

Grape seed oil is obtained by cold pressing grape seeds. In recent years it has become a very popular cooking oil, with a smoke point of 200° C. Grape seed oil also has many health benefits.

One tablespoon of grape seed oil contains about 14 grams of fat (about 10% saturated, 16% monounsaturated and 70% polyunsaturated), 120 calories and 9 milligrams of vitamin E (19% of the recommended daily intake).

It is important to note that grape seed oil contains more vitamin E than other oils such as olive oil, which can contribute to a healthy diet.
